The country is a Muslim-majority nation with a long history of cultural diversity and generally moderate social practices. However, like many countries, it has faced challenges from small extremist groups at different times.
These problems have included isolated violent attacks, pressure on secular voices, and attempts by fringe groups to influence politics or society. Such incidents have raised concerns about freedom of expression, minority rights, and public safety.
At the same time, the government and civil society in Bangladesh have taken strong steps to counter extremism through law enforcement, education, and community programs. Many citizens actively support secular values, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence.
A balanced view is important: extremism exists, but it represents a minority, not the whole of Bangladeshi society.
